If you receive income from the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), you can still qualify for short-term and installment loans in Canada. While most mainstream banks decline applicants whose primary income is government assistance, a number of licensed online lenders specifically accept ODSP, Ontario Works, CPP Disability, and other benefit income as a valid, verifiable source of repayment. The key is that the income is regular and provable through bank statements or benefit letters.
Lenders that accept ODSP usually focus on your overall ability to repay rather than your credit score alone. Many perform no hard credit check, or only a soft check that does not affect your score. Funds are typically delivered the same day by Interac e-Transfer, including evenings and weekends. Loan amounts for ODSP recipients commonly range from $100 up to $1,500 for payday-style loans, and up to $20,000 for installment loans from specialty lenders such as Magical Credit that are built around non-traditional income.
Be aware of the cost. Payday loans in Ontario are capped at $15 per $100 borrowed (an effective APR of roughly 390% on a two-week term), so they are best reserved for genuine short-term emergencies. Installment loans for benefit recipients are capped at the federal criminal interest rate of 35% APR (in effect since 2024). Before borrowing, confirm that the loan payment fits your monthly ODSP budget, that the lender is licensed in your province, and whether they report to the credit bureaus, since on-time payments on a reporting loan can help rebuild your credit.
To compare offers below, look at the total cost of borrowing, the funding speed, and whether the lender explicitly states it accepts ODSP or government benefits as income. Applying does not obligate you to accept, and pre-qualification with a soft check lets you see your options without risking your credit score.
